Sheet Happens
Sheet Happens was an ambitious project designed to boost sales of stapled booklets, inform customers about investments in new machinery, and outline our plans for the year. Members of the Route 1 Print team, including myself, wrote articles on a variety of subjects. I took the lead in designing the magazine, combining bold typography, strong layouts, and striking photography to create an eye-catching final product. Inspired by high-end publications like GQ, the design blended sophistication with playfulness. I also interviewed a client and a member of the production team to ensure the content felt personal and engaging.
Following its success, the highly anticipated sequel, Part Deuce, landed in 2025. This follow-up focused on updating customers with the latest company news while continuing to drive sales for stapled booklets. Inspired by our new large format range, the front cover featured an airplane banner announcing the launch, but in true Sheet Happens fashion, the banner appeared torn mid-flight. The rip, combined with the missing text, hinted at a cheeky pun, with the punchline revealed on the back cover.
Our CEO champions the Purple Cow marketing philosophy, where safe is boring, and Sheet Happens embodies that mindset. The name and cover design are a visual metaphor that's both humorous and thought-provoking.
The magazine was a resounding success, impressing customers and earning praise at industry events. Many have called for it to become a regular feature, proving that Sheet Happens wasn’t just a one-off, it's a statement piece that sparks conversations and leaves a lasting impression.
